When someone you love or care about, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed, helpless, and even distraught. We might feel helpless because we don’t have the power or abilities to help them or ease their pain. In trying and difficult moments like this, turning to God can offer comfort and guidance not just to you but also to your loved one. Through the power of prayer, we are bringing our loved ones before God so he will offer healing and strength. In a moment of helplessness, turning to God and Christ reminds us that we do not have to face this alone. While we may not be able to heal our loved ones physically, we can aid their spiritual and emotional healing through God and prayer.

Short prayer for health and healing

Lord Jesus, I come to You asking for healing and strength. Please bring comfort to this body, peace to this mind, and restore what is broken. Stay close in this moment and carry us through. Amen

Prayer for healing for a loved one

Dear Heavenly Father, it is Your will for us to walk in health. Thank You for providing health and healing for us through your song, Jesus, and his blood shed on the cross.  According to Your Word, I release my faith to you and seek healing for my loved one. I rebuke sickness and disease and command it to leave (insert loved one’s name) body, now, in the Name of Jesus. I seek that you guide them to the restoration of body, soul, and spirit. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

This prayer is about surrendering to God, trusting that He will heal our loved one from whatever sickness they may be suffering from, and asking for body and soul to be restored. This is about letting go of our preconceived notions of control and turning the reins over to God.

Prayer for physical recovery

Dear Lord, I ask that you take away sickness, infirmity, and pain from me and restore me to health (Psalm 103:2-3).

This prayer reminds us never to forget all the good that God does for us; it asks us to remember that God heals us both spiritually and physically.

Prayer for when you feel scared and helpless

Philippians 4:6-7

Dear Heavenly Father, Your Word says not to be anxious about anything, but to pray about everything. So here I am, bringing You this mess. I’m worried about (insert name of person or concern). I don’t know how this will work out, but I’m thanking You in advance for Your faithfulness. I’m asking for Your peace to guard my heart and mind. Amen.

This prayer is about turning over our fear and anxiety to God through prayer, and praying that we will receive peace in our hearts and minds through His faithfulness. It’s about trusting God to guide us faithfully through uncertainties and situations that may bring us anxiety.

Prayer When Healing Is Taking Time

Dear God, I pray to you that you will continue to guide me through this lengthy ordeal and give me the strength to see it through. I pray that you will continue to sustain (insert name of loved one) on their sickbed, and restore them to full health. In Jesus’s name, Amen.

This prayer is based on Psalm 41:3, and asks for God’s continued care, or his sustenance,  of our loved one, both physically and spiritually. Prolonged illness can be difficult not just for the patient but also for their loved ones and friends. It can be emotionally draining, and this prayer also asks for continued strength to be able to support the ill loved one.

Bible verses for healing

  • Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

This psalm reminds us that the Lord not only heals us physically but also emotionally and spiritually. He comforts us and restores us when we are brokenhearted, and secures our emotional wounds so that they won’t overflow and overwhelm us further.

  • Psalm 41:3 The Lord sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health.

This is another reminder that God is always with us, even when we are sick. He sustains, or supports us through our illness with his grace and faithfulness, so that we may be restored (our bodies and minds are healthy again).

  • Proverbs 17:22 A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

This verse lets us know that our emotional and spiritual well-being matters, and that being happy is good medicine. Being happy and joyful helps us heal by enabling a positive outlook, improving our general well-being, and even protecting us physically. While being sad or broken-spirited can wither us away from within, and can weigh heavily on our mind, heart, and body,

  • Jeremiah 17:1 Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for You are my praise”.

This verse evokes surrendering to God, and laying our faith in Him. It acknowledges that God is ultimately responsible for healing and saving us, no matter what we do. This verse acts as a reminder that we continue to praise the Lord, so he will always hear us and our troubles,  and bring us healing and salvation.

  • Isaiah 40:31 But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

By placing our trust in God, we will be renewed in strength so we may continue to prevail and even be elated. Placing our faith in God means that we will never be alone, and that He alone will guide us when times are weary. He will help us endure, stay committed and strong, and stay faithful on our path towards salvation, no matter what troubles life may throw our way.

Never give up

Sometimes it can feel as if our prayers are going unanswered and that we are being ignored. We may find ourselves in situations where were growing increasingly frustrated with our loved one’s illness and continued suffering, and this can cause us to question our faith and whether or not God really listens to us.

Fret not, for our prayers may not always be answered readily, or even as we expect. While He may not be able to physically heal our loved ones straight away, he will provide us with the guidance necessary so that we are able to remain strong, positive, and faithful. Scripture has shown us repeatedly that a positive spirit and steadfast faith in God will ensure that we always stay on the right path,

Just as physical healing takes time, our prayers also take time to be answered. God always hears our struggles, so he will always guide us away from troubles and heal us.

FAQS

Is there an app for guided prayer focused on health and healing?

Yes, there are several that are available, such as the FaithFlow App, which provides you with daily verses on your lock screen. If you’d like to learn more about it and the power of daily prayer, you can visit https://meliormundus.com/faithflow/.

Does God always heal when you pray?

Psalm 103:2-3 “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.”

While God may not always heal us physically, he will heal us emotionally and spiritually so that we can see through our ailments and illnesses with strength and purpose.

How often should I pray for healing?

Daily prayer ensures that God always hears us and helps strengthen our voice to Him. However, we may not be able to pray every day, and that’s okay. Intention matters more than frequency.

What if I don’t know what to say in a prayer?

Don’t worry, start simply and just speak from your heart. Just call Him, lay out your worries, and ask for guidance. God is always with us, and He always hears us, no matter how soft our voices may be.

Is it okay to pray when I have doubts?

Yes, it is especially important to pray when you have doubts. Being honest and confessing your doubts is important, as faith only comes from hearing (Romans 10:7). Your doubts are cast aside only when you take the time to hear the word of God, and prayer is a perfect place to start.

What is a short daily prayer for healing?

Dear Heavenly Father,
I speak to you about my beloved (insert name), and I seek that they are eased from their pain and discomfort, and that they are strengthened by your love and guidance. Amen.
