The Craftsmen Behind the Work
My name is Hani Handal, and I have been working in this craft since 2007. I live and work in Bethlehem, a city known throughout the world for its religious history and for the tradition of creating objects connected to the city and its visitors.
I began working in this field because I saw an opportunity to learn a practical craft and build my work around it. Although I studied at university for two years, most of my knowledge has come through working, experimenting and gaining experience over many years.
What I enjoy most about the work is creativity. I like taking an idea and finding a way to turn it into an actual piece. For me, making something is not simply about reproducing a design. It is about finding the right way to bring the idea to life while adding care and attention to the finished piece.
A well-made piece is about more than producing it correctly. The details, the finishing and the overall appearance are what make a piece stand out.
